Bendheim Playground
Although, this playground was re-stored for
children of all abilities. It is the first "Americans with Disabilities
Act" playground in Central Park. It includes adventure equipment and
an accessible water feature.
Bernard
Playground
This playground has swings and slides
and toddler play equipment. There is also a water feature to cool hot feet.
Lennox
Avenue Playground
Playground contains timber play equipment and
a water feature. Located near The Charles A. Dana Discovery Center, where children
can borrow fish- ing poles and try catching (& releasing) fish at the Harlem
Meer.

100th St. Playground
This playground sports two treehouses, a stone
slide, tire swings, monkey bars, roller-slide, and sand to enable kids to make
their own fun.

110th St. Playground
This playground has play equipment for the
gymnast. It includes a low balance beam, tire-swings, chin-up and monkey bars.
It also has a mushroom water feature and plenty of shade.

One of the five
manmade waterfalls in The Ravine.
The Pool, a two
acre body of water, was part of the original design for Central Park.

Behind this boulder grotto is the 48" pipe that provides water for the
cas-cades, the Loch, Harlem Meer and the Pool.
The
Loch is located at the base of Glen Span Arch, a 14 foot high waterfall.

Central
Park contains 30 tennis courts.

The
Reservoir is a great place for viewing the skyline, jogging and bird watching.

The
Carousel was made in 1908 and is on of the largest in the United States, containing
58 hand-carved, painted horses.

The
Pond

The
Mall was Central Park's original concert ground. It was replaced in 1923
by Naumburg Bandshell.
Wollman
Rink opened in 1949. Skaters can skate day and night. The rink plays
music and also has a snack bar. See website link at left.

Over
three acres,
Heckscher Playground is the largest in the Park.
Play kickball, swing, seesaw or enjoy
the fountain.

Billy
Johnson Playground
Rustic playground with equipment made of white cedar. Features a large granite
slide.

72nd Street Playground
Explore a treehouse at this sandy play area.

Adventure
Playground is for older children. Set on a compass, Adventure features a
climbing pyramid.

67th Street Playground
is a great place for toddlers.

Merchants'
Gate at Columbus Circle
One of four main entrances to the park. This one honors
the battleship Maine, sunk in 1898.

The
Great Lawn
Site of two free performances by the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan
Opera each summer. The Lawn also has eight softball fields. Soccer, basketball,
and volleyball are played here as well.

Go
horseback riding along the
Bridle Path.

Take
a gondola ride on
The Lake. At twenty acres, it is the second
largest body of water at the Park. (The Reservoir is the largest).

Race
your radio powered boat with other members at the Model Yacht Club.

This
19th century
Dairy now serves as a visitors information center.

Grand Army Plaza was completed in 1916.
It commemorates the Grand Army of the Potomac, the Union of the American Civil
War. The gilded bronze statue is of General William Tecumseh Sherman.

Balto, a siberian husky, led the
dogteam credited with the delivery of an antitoxin needed for a diphtheria
epidemic. Blinded by a blizzard during the Alaskan trip, the driver
of the team relied completely on Balto's instincts. The heroic husky
did not survive the rigors of his extraordinary trip
.

Bethesda
Fountain features the "Angel of the Waters." The angel blesses
the fresh water that Croton Aqueduct brought to New York in 1842.

Belvedere
Castle was originally built as a playful facade, a shell, without doors
or windows. It is now the site of the Henry Luce Nature Observatory, and sports
real doors and windows!

Safari
Playground, at W. 91st St., has a jungle theme, shade trees, picnic area

in Wonderland sculpture commis-sioned in 1959
by Delacorte to honor his wife, Margarita.

The
Ramble
This 38-acre garden was meant to
inspire the visitor to "ramble" around through its rustic bridges
and benches admiring the birds, The Gill stream and the forest garden atmosphere.

North
Meadow Recreation Center
The center was originally built as a stable
but in the 1990's it was remodeled for its current use. The exterior of the
stucture has been preserved as a historical landmark. With photo ID, a visitor
may borrow from a large selection of balls and sports equipment.

A
military fort built for use during the American Revolution. Block House #1,
a remnant of the War of 1812, is a concrete shell located north of the Great
Hill. These are the only two surviving structures from that period of history
in Central Park.

The
Arsenal
Built in
1851 as a munitions depot, the Arsenal now houses offices
of the Park and Zoo. However, its main attraction to visitors is the displayed
original "Greens-
ward Plan". (the original blueprint of Central Park).
